The Mariam Coltrane Schramm Clothing Room
The Mariam Coltrane Schramm Clothing Room, established in 1973, provides new,
stylish school clothes to economically disadvantaged students in the Cabarrus County Schools and the
Kannapolis City Schools.
The League has responded as the
need for assistance in the community has increased through the years, improving both the quality and quantity of
clothing that the children receive.
Children are brought from their schools
to the Clothing Room where they have the opportunity to “shop” for items similar to the clothing or uniforms worn
by other children at their school. Guidance counselors and teachers refer the children to the Clothing Room where
League volunteers assist them in selecting shirts, pants, jeans, sweatshirts and sweatpants, a winter coat, socks
and shoes, underwear, gloves and toiletries. To date for 2009-2010, we have clothed more than 1,450 children!
The Clothing Room is typically open Monday through Friday, mid-September through mid-January,
except for school holidays and closings.
